Ultra Runners using Wikipedia to downplay other’s accomplishments?

Story sourced by runningmagazine.ca

Renowned American ultrarunner Camille Herron, who holds more than 12 ultrarunning world records, and her coach and husband, Conor Holt, are at the center of a Wikipedia controversy. The issue arises from multiple edits made to the Wikipedia pages of fellow ultrarunners Kilian Jornet and Courtney Dauwalter, which appeared to downplay their achievements while elevating Herron’s. These edits have been traced back to Herron’s email and Holt’s IP address.

Since February 2024, the couple has been using the Wikipedia account “Rundbowie,” following the temporary ban of their previous account “Temporun73” for breaching Wikipedia’s conflict of interest rules regarding edits on Herron’s page. Just hours after “Temporun73” was banned, the new “Rundbowie” account was created and resumed activity, making changes to Herron’s page and those of other athletes.
